A Bit of Wildlife

Here we have a very poorly dragonfly, with battered wings and no energy.  It was just lying in a puddle so we rescued it but I don't think there's much hope.  It was the most amazing shade of blue.

Then, just a bit further along the path we came across this slimy old frog, it didn't move a muscle - great camouflage.  So, after discovering these two beasts I kept a sharp lookout for any other creatures of interest.  I came across lots of fungi, which I realise is not exactly wildlife, but the colour of this toadstool was fantastic and there is evidence of a creature being here having had a nibble during the night.

More Highland Holiday Snaps!

On one of the days we drove over to the West Coast and I dropped the family off so that they could climb these 3 Munros - (mountains over 3,000 feet) of which I cannot remember the names (their spellings are in Gaelic so I cannot even pronounce most of them).
My dog and I then spent the rest of the day in Ullapool and picnicking and walking around the coast.

One of the beaches was covered in these lovely large flat pebbles and people had used them in both artistic and practical ways to build with.

At the end of a beautiful day Skye and I met the weary mountaineers back at the meeting point - ready for hot baths and a nourishing supper.

A Holiday in the Highlands

We decided last week to take a few days holiday in the Scottish Highlands to stay with my brother-in-law.  We had a lovely relaxing time following the two previous stressful weeks of moving house.  This is the view from their sitting room window - it's so wonderful and peaceful, just what we needed.

On one of the days we climbed up the hill to the Fyrish monument.  I found myself taking loads of photos, so here are just a few.

I love the shapes of the trees, particularly with the dappled sunlight coming through, and this lichen was the most beautiful shade of pale green; huge clumps of it everywhere.
I'll show you more photos tomorrow!
